“You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the older women to be reverent in the way the live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands, and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be bushy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the Word of God. – (Titus 2:1, 3-5)
Mission Statement
“To encourage women to be committed followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, through fellowship, teaching the truth from God’s Holy Word, serving others, and equipping them to share their faith and the gospel with those the Lord places in their lives.”
The women in ministry at First Baptist Church have a passion for women of all ages from pre-teens to senior citizens. Our leadership team consists of seven women who are the hub of the ministry. The team evaluates every program or event being considered for the women in our church to make sure goals for balancing the ministry are being followed so that women will experience the full purpose of the ministry.
Ministry Goals
The goals for the women in ministry at First Baptist Church are to:
1) Give women connections through outreach-focused activities
2) Give women community through small groups or special interest groups
3) Give women Jesus through Bible studies and retreats
4) Give women growth opportunities for leadership development through coaching and mentoring that help women grown in skills, service and outreach.
Ministry Activities
The most important job this ministry has is to pray, pray, pray. We have a special prayer team called “The Heart Whisperers”. They whisper to God our heart for the ministry. These women have a passion for prayer and are not intimately involved with the planning and preparation of the ministry. These women believe in what they’re doing and have a heart for the Lord and for women. They “pray without ceasing!”
This ministry has special interest groups designed to meet the needs and interest of women. For example: Sassy Scrappers (for those who enjoy scrapbooking) and crochet One Knit Too! (for those who enjoy needlework).
We have fun events as well like: “The Pink Event”, “Mother’s Heart Brunch”, “Ladies Spring Fling/Swap Meet”. Through these events women get the opportunity to meet and share life together. Every event is considered in prayer and God’s word is central.
Our ongoing outreach program is designed after Jennifer Rothschild’s “One Person, One Item, One Life Made Better.” For the second year in a row we have involved the entire church body in a “Back pack/ School supplies Drive”. From January through July we collect School Supplies and backpacks and just before school begins we distribute them to the underprivileged children in the neighborhood surrounding our church facility.
Our grand finale for the year is our Fall Retreat. Women enjoy three days of fellowship, fun, food and most importantly, three days of being actively involved in God’s Word through an intense Bible Study.
